Standard started in 1894 as a Leicester family engineering business manufacturing a wide range of shoe making equipment. In the 1970's it was purchased by Halma plc. In the next 25 years the business evolved into a leading manufacturer of shoe repairing equipment.
In 1999 Tony Law the Managing Director and Brian Sperryn the Sales Director conducted a management buyout. Now with a more focused management the company acquired the rights to Market and Sell the Volumatic range of High Security Disintegrators, these machines had for the past 20 years been manufactured by Standard for Volumatic, another Halma business.
In 2000 Standard purchased its only UK shoe repairing machine competitor Whitfield Wylie, whose products also included the Silca Key Blank and machinery agency for the shoe repair industry. Whitfield's range of Finishing machines ideally complemented Standards products and their full manufacturing capability in their Kettering factory and suited the small batch bespoke requirements of the market.
Today the business has been consolidated into one enlarged premises in Kettering. The company has an experienced team of over 30 employees offering a range of products from Shoe repairing, Key cutting, security shredding, and shoe making equipment, all backed by a team of skilled engineers.
